There are enough skin-care gadgets out there to turn your beauty regimen into what feels like an at-home dermatologist appointment. Generally, as you age, your skin produces less collagen and elastin, and it’s more prone to becoming dry or dehydrated. When you’re shopping for skin-care devices, your best bet is to stay away from those that involve a lot of aggressive scrubbing or that manipulate your skin in all different directions. “When treating mature skin, something you always want to keep in mind is to make sure you’re not pulling or rubbing the skin too harshly,” says Lisa Guidi, esthetician and founder of Erase Spa in New York City, noting that this can lead to irritation.
